O edifício do Hotel Dom Henrique teve origem num projecto arrojado de dois afamados arquitectos portuenses, Arquitecto Pádua Ramos e Arquitecto Carlos Loureiro, para construção de um edifício de escritórios que seria o primeiro edifício da cidade construído em altura utilizando betão armado. Só depois de já estar no 'alto' foi alterado para Hotel, após o proprietário, o Sr. Afonso Pinto de Magalhães, ter concluído que a cidade do Porto tinha necessidade de um bom hotel de quatro estrelas, sendo inaugurado em Março de 1973.
